Master Gmail with Canned Responses


As business owners, we often find ourselves repeating the same e-mails over and over to different people.

Whether it's replying to sales leads, asking clients for payment information, or sending through drafts, it can become a drag on your time and motivation to have to rewrite all those e-mails.

If you haven't used it before, Gmail has a fantastic feature called "Canned Responses", which allows you to save e-mail templates for you to use later.

It's amazing.

If you're not a Gmail power user, turning it on can be tricky because it's hidden in the settings menu. But once you have it enabled, all of your e-mail templates will be exactly where you need them, in the "Compose E-mail" window.

Here's how you can turn it on for yourself :)

Head to your inbox and click on the gear icon


Click on "Settings" from the drop down menu


Once in settings, click on the "Labs" tab

Find "Canned Responses" and click "Enable"

While you're there, take the time to look at the other Labs that Gmail has on offer. There are some awesome tools here that can really help you get on top of your e-mail management.

My favourites are:

  • Auto-Advance
  • Unread Message Icon

That's it!

Now when you go to compose an e-mail, you'll find your canned responses in the bottom right hand corner menu.

To save a template, simply write an e-mail, click "Canned Responses" and click Save. If you're feeling clever, you could find an e-mail you've already sent, copy that text into a new e-mail and save it that way.
